Le statut de l'aigle ibérique Aquila adalberti en France

2007
Bibliography and museums were searched in order to review all known record of Spanish Imperial Eagle Aquila adalberti in France. The species is irregularly noted in the Pyrenees. Following critical review of all seventeen sightings known to us (circa 1830-2005), we have found 9 of them to be satisfactory, 10 (2 concerning clutches) cannot be accepted due to lack of information. Two authenticated records exist in the Camargue, with a third one awaiting confirmation. The only Corsican record cannot be considered. The last 20th century record in the Pyrenees was in 1955, but 5 individuals have been noted between 2001 and 2005. This increase is probably linked to the increase of the Spanish population, which has gone from 50 pairs in 1950 to 187 in 2003.
