Preparation of bipolar lead-carbon electrode and study on its electrochemical performance

2018
Bipolar lead-carbon battery is a novel lead-carbon battery. Its greatest advantage is the carbon electrode can be combined with lead active material and freely distribute. In addition, the proportion of carbon material can be easily enhanced. In this paper, two types of bipolar lead-carbon batteries are prepared. One is Pb-C electrodes as negative plates (type 1 battery) and the other is Pb-C electrodes are respectively used as negative and positive plates (type 2 battery). Through the study of carbon electrodes, we can conclude XC-72 is more suitable as the conductive agent. The charge and discharge test shows the specific capacities of type 2 battery can reach 77.57 and 70.68 mAh g−1 at 1 and 2 C. However, after 100 cycles, the specific capacities of type 1 battery have little attenuation. This means that type 1 battery has the more excellent rate performance and type 2 battery has the longer cycle life.
