PAVEMENT RESPONSES TO SEASONAL VARIATIONS
1994
The Long Term Pavement Performance (LTPP) seasonal monitoring program was established to attain a fundamental understanding of the magnitude and impact of temporal variations (diurnal, seasonal, and annual) in pavement response and properties. The study methodology is to collect continuous environmental and in-pavement instrumentation data coupled with monthly (or more frequent) deflection measurements from a carefully selected set of LTPP test sections distributed across North America. This paper presents a summary evaluation of the data collected during the pilot study with emphasis on the seasonal variations in the layer moduli from backcalculated deflection data. The evaluation includes backcalculation of the pavement layer moduli from deflection data, analyses of temperature measurement data, contact resistance measurement data, and Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) moisture data.
