The Rhizome Anatomy of Certain Species of the Genus Cheilanthes

Twenty-six taxa in the genus Cheilanthes were examined for stelar type. Twenty are assigned to the solenostelic type and six to the transitional solenostelic type. No dictyosteles were noted on our material. The various tissues in the rhizomes are described Xylem parenchyma is a feature of the transitional type but not of the solenostele proper. The adventitious roots are diarch, possess both protoxylem and metaxylem, and originate from the pericycle.
