System and method for wireless communications with adaptive codebooks

The present invention provides a system using an adaptive codebook and method for wireless communications. A method for operating a communication node comprising: estimating a communication channel between a controller in communication with the node serving the communication node; based on the adaptation of the quantization codebook to a communication channel estimate; estimating statistics of the communication channel ; transmitting a first indicator of the quantized estimate of the communication channel; statistics based on the estimated adjusted by adaptation of the codebook; and receiving a transmission from the controller. Precoded based on the quantized estimate of the communication channel to the first transmission indicator.
