ROADSIDE ACCIDENTS IN ILLINOIS

This article reports the results of a study concerning roadside accidents involving vehicles parked along roadsides in the state of Illinois. This study, which was conducted from January through December 1989, was designed to: (1) review and analyze roadside accident data for both emergency and nonemergency vehicles collected by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) from January 1987 to September 1988, and (2) review the literature applicable to accidents of this type. Specifically, the project was an exploratory effort designed to review available roadside accident data in the state of Illinois, to review pertinent literature to attain a better understanding of accidents of this type, and to help direct research efforts in the future.
