2014
Introduction: Multiple studies relate a defi ciency of proprioception with the incidence of knee OA the purpose of exercise is restore proprioceptive neuromuscular control, to improve strength, coordination, balance and compensate for the loss of sensation caused after injury. Objective: Evaluate the effi cacy of a specifi c proprioceptive exercise program as a treatment for knee osteoarthritis grade I and II. Material and methods: Quasi-experiment on a sample of 34 patients with ages between 55 and 65 years, with clinical diagnosis and radiographic knee osteoarthritis grade I and II. We performed an initial evaluation and fi nal muscle strength, range of motion, basic activities of daily life and presence of pain. Results: We found a signifi cant (p < 0.05) in the presence of pain with EVA, and increased knee joint motion and muscle strength. Deformity varus/valgus decreased. Conclusion: Proprioceptive exercises improves muscle strength increasing joint stability and contribute to the reduction of pain, increased range of motion as a result are improved activities of daily living, just like allows to reduce the need for painkillers.
