Feedback controlled resource management model for express service in electric vehicle charging stations

2021
Abstract The number of electric vehicles on the roads is increasing globally. However, the charging duration of electric vehicles is long, and the number and capacity of fast charging public stations are limited. This may lead to congested electric vehicle charging stations and long waiting times in queues. Priority based express service can reduce the waiting times of the high priority class. This study develops a feedback controlled express station management model (FC-EXP) for priority service in electric vehicle charging stations. FC-EXP manages the charging station's resources dynamically in real time such that the ratio of high and normal priority vehicles' delay times follow a relative delay target. Stations can announce different relative delay targets depending on their pricing policies. FC-EXP provides a self-controlling resource management capability to express charging stations. Results show that FC-EXP successfully tracks the relative delay target under different conditions, both in steady state and in real time.
