Exciton spin dynamics in CdTe/ZnTe quantum structures
2011
We have investigated the exciton spin dynamics in an ultrathin CdTe/ZnTe single quantum well (QW) and self-assembled quantum dots (QDs) by observing time-resolved Kerr rotation (TRKR). At temperatures low enough to suppress the thermal escape of holes from the quantum-confinement structures, excitons dominate the TRKR signal. It shows characteristic dependence on the magnetic field, which is distinctly different from that of isolated electrons. From the data, we have estimated the electron–hole exchange energy to be 137 µeV in the QW, and larger than 190 µeV in the QDs.
