INTEGRAL TRANSFORM FOR PERIODIC LAMINAR FORCED CONVECTION IN SIMULTANEOUSLY DEVELOPING FLOW

2000
This work presents a theoretical study of periodic laminar forced convection for the simultaneously developing flow between parallel plates channel. A generic boundary condition of the fifth kind that accounts for both external convection and wall thermal capacitance effects is imposed. The flow is subjected to a periodic variation of the inlet temperature. The results are obtained through the generalized integral transform technique (GITT). This hybrid numerical-analytical approach is applied to the steady two-dimensional incompressible Navier-Stokes equations in stream-function-only formulation and the energy equation. Numerical results with automatic global accuracy control are produced for the temperature distribution for different values of Reynolds and Biot numbers, dimensionless inlet frequency, and fluid-to-wall thermal capacitance ratio.
