RING CONTROL: ITS APPLICATIONS FOR MUNICH'S MIDDLE RING ROAD

2000
The MOBINET working part RING CONTROL is developing new concepts for harmonizing the traffic flow on an urban ring road and its major radials, maintaining the system's capacity throughout the peak periods, and overcoming the adverse effects of traffic congestion. Based on a comprehensive overall system architecture appropriate, best performing control measures with various spatial impacts have been planed and developed and will be demonstrated in different areas on Munich's Middle Ring Road: A collective dynamic information system (RING-INFO) for a better area wide traffic allocation, adaptive signal control (BALANCE) and variable lane assignment for optimal use of existing capacity on specific ring sections, and ramp metering for local optimization of traffic flow in weaving areas. For the covering abstract see ITRD E114174.
