Morphological characteristics of peripheral blood erythrocytes in patients with disseminated atherosclerosis

2000
: Studies of surface architectonics of erythrocytes in 20 patients with atherosclerotic involvement of the lower limb arteries by scanning electron microscopy showed clear-cut redistribution of the erythrocyte population, which depended on the cell morphology, with a tendency to a decrease in the count of discocytes and an increase in the counts of echinocytes, spherocytes, stomatocytes, and degeneratively changed erythrocytes.
