The invention discloses a method and a system for generating template previews. By the method and the system, the shortcoming of low efficiency when office software previews template files in the prior art can be overcome. The method includes: when templates of the office software are started, acquiring images corresponding to the templates; drawing the images on a starting interface window of the office software so as to generate the template previews in the starting interface window. By the method and the system, response speed for generating the template previews is increased, system overhead when the template previews are generated is lowered, and generation efficiency of the template file previews is improved.
