Pantothenic acid deficiency and conjugation reactions in vivo. IV. Sulfanilamide acetylation and body weight

1951
Abstract 1. 1. A linear relation has been found between the weight of rats and the extent to which a given dose of injected sulfanilamide is acetylated. In experiments where the extent of conjugation is being used as a criterion, e.g., appraising pantothenic acid deficiency, this weight-acetylation relationship must be taken into consideration in making comparisons with animals of different weights. 2. 2. Maximal acetylation of test doses of sulfanilamide by pantothenic acid-deficient rats following intraperitoneal administration of adequate amounts of the missing vitamin can occur within 3 hr.
