The lived experience of younger women with vulval cancer: the impact of delayed diagnosis.

BACKGROUND: Cancer of the vulva is a rare disease and little is known about its psychological, emotional and social impact. AIM: To explore the lived experiences of younger women with this condition. METHOD: A qualitative research study involving semi structured interviews with 13 women was undertaken using interpretative phenomenology. RESULTS AND DISCUSSION: This article examines one of the main findings, related to delays in referral for definitive treatment. CONCLUSION: Some changes to practice are recommended to increase awareness among nursing and medical staff and the general public.
