Examining the necessity of 10 dB-attenuation at the measurement port of AANs

2020
Reducing the effects of impedance mismatching between an Artificial Mains Network (AMN) measurement port and measuring receiver input port requires 10 dB-attenuation at the AMN measurement port. However, this is currently not required for an Asymmetric Artificial Network (AAN). Defining of the new term "Artificial Network" (so as to include AMN, AAN and similar coupling devices) in the latest version of CISPR 16-1-2 edition 2.1 raises the question of whether 10 dB-attenuation is necessary at the measurement port of AAN.In this paper, the effects of attaching a 10 dB-attenuator to the measurement port of an AAN to conduct emission measurement at the wired-network port were evaluated experimentally. Based on the measurement results, it was confirmed that 10 dB-attenuation at the measurement port of an AAN is not required for conducted emission measurement of a wired-network port when the internal attenuator of the measuring receiver is set to not less than 10 dB.
