Improved renal function in diabetic patients with acute gout treated with anakinra.
2015
To the Editor: The recent paper by Shahzad et al.1 described the role of Nlrp3-inflammasome activation in resident kidney cells using mouse models of diabetic nephropathy, possibly due to hyperglycemia.1 They showed that treatment with anakinra, an IL-1 receptor antagonist, prevented diabetic nephropathy in db/db mice and the diabetic streptozotocin mouse model. They also showed some improvement of established nephropathy in db/db mice.
