Survey for Aphid Vectors of Potato Viruses in Kulu Valley

1979
Survey for aphid vectors of potato viruses was conducted on potato crop in Kulu Valley during 1967 to 1970 at 12 different places located at an elevation of 1089 to 2665 m. Four aphid species, viz. Myzus persicae (Sulzer). Aphis gossypii Glover, A. fabae Scopoli and Myzus ornatus Laing were recorded. Among these, Myzus persicae (Sulzer), the principal vector was more common and was recorded at all centres though in variable numbers. Its population remained much below the critical level at Banjar (1524 m), Gojh (1981 m), Jari (1532 m) and Khokhan (1142 m). While it was at or above the critical level at Hamta (259l m), Kothi (2665 m), Alue (1935 m) and Katrain (1473 m). Economic implications of the results have been discussed.
