L’oblio nella memoria. La polis di Nicole Loraux

2017
In his paper the author offers us an overview on Nicole Loraux’s book The Divided City – perhaps her more celebrated work – taking into account both her theoretical and political paths, and life experiences. In his intense and very accurate, and not simply academic, account, the author re-reads Loraux’s complete works giving an account of the complexity and materiality of her life story and the path of research and friendship she and him have shared in their lifetime. Memories are not ends in themselves, nor they are intended to be pure and simply praises or eulogies. Memories give embodied substance to a critical reflection on Loraux’s book. In this paper, theoretical analysis are re-read in the light of masters and mentors, dialogues and theoretical collaborations, changes of course, and stances: maybe the only way to give an account of such an embodied and lively reflection, as Nicole Loraux’s is.
