Cutting Performance of MoS_2-Zr Composite Coated Tools

Medium-frequency magnetron sputtered coupled with arc ion plated MoS2-Zr coatings were deposited on YT15 cemented carbide.Fundamental properties including thickness,micro-hardness and substrate-coating adhesion strength of the composite coatings were studied.Dry machining tests on quenched steel were carried out with those coated tools and results showed that deposition of the MoS2-Zr composite coatings onto the YT15 cemented carbide causes significant improvement in cutting performance at low cutting speed.
