Cathodic protection and stray current measurement and monitoring

Abstract Basic knowledge on cathodic protection and DC and AC stray current interference was introduced in this chapter, including the mechanism, evaluation criteria, and measurement and monitoring methods. For cathodic protection, the mechanism based on cathodic polarization, two kinds of typical CP methods, the criteria used to evaluate the effectiveness of CP system, and commonly used measurement and monitoring methods were introduced. For DC stray current interference, the definition of DC stray current, classification by interference source, corrosion risk evaluation criteria, and detection and monitoring methods for both static and dynamic DC stray currents were introduced. For AC stray current interference, the interference mechanism, typical types, corrosion risk evaluation criteria, and mainly used detection and monitoring methods were introduced. The latest criteria and measurement or monitoring techniques were introduced in this chapter.
