Common gateway interfacing and dynamic JPEG techniques for remote handheld medical image viewing

2003
Abstract In remote medical consultation, transfer of medical images such as Computed Tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MR) images were required. During the transfer, many technical problems including data integrity, accessibility, size of the data, compression method and bandwidth of linkage should be considered. A method of transferring medical image data using Common Gateway Interfacing and dynamic JPEG techniques from a hospital data centre to a handheld PocketPC through a mobile phone were presented in this paper. In the proposed method, many communication technologies such as WEB, SQL, DICOM, GSM, Bluetooth and JPEG compression were involved. The advantage of this method was that the clinical user has no geographic limitation in using the system. He could query the image server to get the required images using the handheld PocketPC at anywhere.
