A process for producing a sintered honeycomb body

1999
The invention relates to a method for producing a metallic honeycomb, comprising the following steps: forming a honeycomb by stacking and/or winding steel sheet layers containing chromium and aluminium; introducing the honeycomb into a cover tube; and forming connections between adjacent steel sheet layers (1, 2) by treatment with heat. The steel sheet layers (1, 2) are preferably provided with a rolling oil with a high carbon content before being formed, so that a carbon layer forms during the heat treatment. Said carbon layer promotes the sintering process. In this way it is possible to economically produce a stable honeycomb from very thin steel sheet layers (1, 2).
