Seawater desalination to augment the water supply on Penghu Island, Taiwan

1994
Abstract To alleviate water shortage on Penghu Island, a feasibility study was carried out on management of water resources (underground waters and aquifers), on the use of well water in combination with RO and on seawater desalination. It was recommended that a 2,000 ton/d seawater RO or VC desalination plant be considered and electrical power be taken from the grid. Energy and water resource planning should be done together and a dual purpose power/desalting plant be considered for reduction of water costs.
