Dense Optical Interface Module for silicon detector readout

A general optical readout system, the Dense Optical Interface Module, has been designed for silicon detectors in high energy physics experiments. We describe the functionality and packaging of this module and its proposed application in the CDF Upgrade detector as optical parallel data link. Prototype test results and prospects for future applications are outlined.
