Adjustment of exhaust sensor controls at asymmetric degradation reactions

Methods and systems are provided for converting an asymmetrical degradation reaction of an exhaust gas sensor in a more symmetrical deterioration reaction. In one example, a method adjusting the fuel injection in response to a modified exhaust gas oxygen feedback signal from an exhaust gas sensor, wherein the modified exhaust gas oxygen feedback signal is modified by converting an asymmetrical reaction of the exhaust gas sensor in a more symmetrical reaction. The method may further include adjusting one or more parameters of an anticipatory control device of the exhaust gas sensor based on the changed symmetric reaction.
