Conceptual design of primary heat transfer system for CFETR power extraction system

2021
Abstract Power Extraction System (PES) is the major port of outputting fusion energy in the Chinese Fusion Engineering Testing Reactor (CFETR). The large amount of thermal power is transferred by Power Extraction System Primary Heat Transfer System (PES PHTS) to achieve the effect of cooling plasma facing components (PFCs) and power generating. In addition, PES PHTS has the function of baking the PFCs. Therefore, the PES PHTS conceptual design is an essential step to determine fitting size and evaluate thermal-hydraulic characteristic. In this paper, a thermal-hydraulic model is developed by AFT Fathom code to predict the thermal-hydraulic behavior of the PES PHTS in different operation modes. The results show that the critical thermal-hydraulic parameters can satisfy the PES PHTS operational requirements, such as the required pump head, flow rate, temperature and pressure drop. These results will lay a solid foundation for future device development of the CFETR PES PHTS.
