Environmental assessment of the HYGAS process. Interim report on HYGAS environmental characterization: reference data manual, Tests 55 through 64. [Fate of trace elements; Tests 55 to 64]

1982
Under contract to the US Department of Energy, HYGAS pilot plant streams have been systematically sampled and analyzed to provide an environmental assessment of the HYGAS process. The pilot plant units of interest include the pretreater and gasifier reactors, which are considered scalable to larger HYGAS coal gasification plants. This is Volume II in a series of five interim reports detailing the HYGAS environmental assessment. The objective of this report is to make available trace element analyses for individual solid samples from HYGAS Tests 55 to 64. These data have been reported previously but only as averaged results. The fate of minor and trace elements during gasification has been studied in selected HYGAS pilot plant streams. These studies were intended to yield quantitative data on the fate of certain trace elements rather than order-of-magnitude results. The trace element analyses were carried out by atomic absorption methods whenever possible. Because the total number of trace elements in coal and coal chars is large and covers a wide range of physical and chemical properties, an arbitrary decision was made to limit analyses to those elements listed in Table 1.
