Reply to letter to the editor: Comment on “a bile duct‐on‐a‐chip with organ‐level functions”

We appreciate the interest of Xiao et al. in our work. We believe, however, that these authors have misinterpreted our experimental design and findings. They question our conclusion that the basal surface of cholangiocyte monolayers is more sensitive to the biliary toxin biliatresone than the apical surface and raise the possibility that apical and basal biliatresone concentration and flow in our system are different.
