Distribution of linear statistics in random matrix models (metallic conductance fluctuations)

1994
In this paper the distribution of linear statistics in random matrix models is evaluated in the large-N approximation. The distribution function is found to be a Gaussian, but with a mean and mode, which depend on the single-particle potential, that do not coincide, albeit with a vanishingly small discrepancy in the limit of a perfect conductor.
