Advance and clinical value of energy metabolism of astrocytes after cerebral ischemia

Background Astrocytes were important glial cells which played an crucial role in the energetic metabolism, signal transduction and electrical activities in neurons. The energetic metabolism of astrocytes after cerebral ischemia affected neurons' survival and brain function. Objective To explore a new treatment strategy for cerebral ischemia on the basis of energetic metabolism of astrocytes. Content This review article would focus on how energetic metabolism of astrocytes would change after ischemia and its possible mechanism and clinical significance.
