The management of complications of ultrasound-guidance transrectal prostatic biopsy in 902 cases

Objective To discuss the occurrence and treatment of complications after transrectal prostatic biopsy. Method Nine hundred and two patients underwent transrectal prostatic biopsy from January 2012 to December 2016 were analgzed retrospectively in our hospital. Among the 902 patients, 270 patients were found hematuria (29.93%), 155 patients occurred bloody stool (17.18%) and 19 patients got hemoproctia (12.26% in bloody stool patients), 46 patients had postoperative infections, included 4 patients with acute epididymitis (8.70% in postoperative infected patients). Specially, one of the infected patient deteriorated to septicemia, and rhabdomyolysis and acute kidney injury. In addition, 7 patients had blood vessel vagus reflex (0.78%). Conclusion Transrectal prostatic biopsy is a simple, precise and minimal invasive operation, however, there may be some complications. Preoperative preparation and postoperative treatment were of great importance in preventing complications. Key words: Transrectal ultrasound; Prostatic biopsy; Complications
