Three dimensional morphometry of fish body structure by X-ray CT

2004
To estimate the acoustic back scattering cross section of a fish, a numerical approach is newly developing. This method comprises three dimensional morphometry of fish body structure by X-ray computed tomography (X-ray CT) and numerical calculation of the acoustic scattering of fish by the boundary element method (BEM). The basic idea of this method is simple: incorporating the three-dimensional shape information obtained by CT scan into the BEM. The shape data processability of this method, which is from taking X-ray CT of a fish to generating the input data for numerical calculation, is tested on a sample fish, Horse Mackerel (Trachurus japonicus).
