Sporotrichum pruniosum causing a rare invasive infection in an immunocompromised patient

2015
Patients with advanced HIV infection are often susceptible toinvasive infection by saprophytic fungi. These fungi usuallypresent as mere colonizers in immunocompetent individualsor as culture contaminants. Sporotrichum pruniosum is onesuch dimorphic fungus whose etiological role in causinginvasive infections has been much debated and histopatho-logical confirmations have been elusive. Studies suggest thatthis fungus may colonize the bronchopulmonary tree.
