Ourpatient sustained alaceration ofthemembranous portion ofthetrachea associated withmassive subcutaneous emphysema after anapparently uneventfilintubation. Thepatient wassuccessfully operated onwithin sevenhours. Theimportance ofprompt diagnosis andtreatment intheeventofthis rarecomplication andthedifferent causative factors arediscussed.
