A Novel Approach for the Analysis and Synthesis of High Order Directional Modulation

Conventional wireless communication is vulnerable to be intercepted due to the openness of channel. Directional modulation (DM), as one of promising wireless communication technology, can enhance the wireless transmission security. In this paper, a novel DM method is proposed to analyze and synthesize the traditional directional modulation, where the high order modulation structure is exploited. Specifically, we design the DM scheme based on one-dimensional phase array (PA) and synthesize the radiation pattern using Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO). Some metrics such as error vector magnitude (EVM), bit error rate (BER) are also used to assess the performance of high order DM system. Simulation results show that proposed approach can enhance the security without reducing the gain of the antenna.
