Changes in Chloroplast Membrane Compositions and Fluidity of Crops Treated with Specific Electrostatic Field

Under the action of 0.3 kV/cm electrostatic field, the relative quantities of unsaturated fatty acids of chloroplast membranes of soybean, cucumber and Chinese cabbage were increased, the relative quantities of saturated fatty acids decreased, and the indexes of unsaturated fatty acids (IUFA) and the fluidity of chloroplast membrane increased. Further studies showed that the electrostatic field made the contents of malonadialehyde (MDA) in crop leaves decreased, and the activities of SOD, POD and CAT increased. These results indicated that the electrostatic field promoted the function of protection enzyme system for membrane, and made the fluidity of chloroplast membrane increased. Fig 3, Tab 1, Ref 16
