The invention provides a method for determining the state of charge of a storage battery by means of a load voltage characteristic of the accumulator with the following features: the battery is charged up to a first time (11) as desired by an application; from the first time (11) to a second point in time (12) of the accumulator is discharged at a predetermined discharge current; the second time (12) to a third point (13) of the accumulator is discharged at most with a conditional by the application of bias current; the earliest at the third point (13) is measured a rest voltage of the battery; and the state of charge is determined based on the open circuit voltage by means of the load voltage characteristic. The invention further provides a corresponding device, a corresponding computer program and a corresponding storage medium.
