A useful absorbent core (28) for an absorbent article (20) comprising a layer (100) substrate, said layer (100) of a first surface and a second surface comprising said absorbent core further comprising a discontinuous layer of absorbent material, comprising said absorbent material material (110) absorbent polymeric and zero to 40% by weight absorbent material based on the total weight of the material (110) absorbent polymeric fibrous, said discontinuous layer of absorbent material comprising a first surface and a second surface, said absorbent core (28) further comprising a layer of thermoplastic material (120), said layer of thermoplastic material (120) having a first surface and a second surface comprising wherein said second surface of said discontinuous layer of absorbent material is in at least partial contact with said first surface of said layer (100) substrate and wherein torque tes of said second surface of said layer of thermoplastic material (120) are in direct contact with said first surface of said layer (100) substrate and portions of said second surface of said layer of thermoplastic material (120) are in direct contact with said first surface of said discontinuous layer of absorbent material, wherein the discontinuous layer of absorbent material has openings therein and the absorbent material is disposed in areas which are connected together.
