Responses of the American Cockroach, Periplaneta Americana (L.), to High Concentrations of Dietary Aflatoxin B1

1989
Aflatoxins are a group of fungal metabolites produced by Aspergillus flavus and A. parasiticus and they may be found as contaminants in many stored agricultural products (Diener and Davis, 1969; Golumbic and Kulic, 1969). Aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) is a highly toxic heptacarcinogen in most laboratory and domestic animals (Newberne and Butler, 1969); and has been shown to be more toxic than any of the other naturally occurring aflatoxins such as AFB2, AFG1, and AFG2 (Butler and Wogan, 1965).
