Phase shifts of the partial amplitudes of the. pi -->. 3. pi. (J/sup P/L) process on nuclei

A good phenomenological description is obtained of the data on the (..pi..,3..pi..) process on nuclei at incident-pion momentum 40 GeV/c, including the enhancement of the phase shifts in the partial nuclear amplitudes. A criterion is proposed which permits the detection of inelastic-screening effects in exclusive processes of hadron diffractive dissociation on nuclei. It is shown that inelastic-screening effects are manifested in the process in question.
