Life strategies in endangered bryophytes in Hungary
1992
Abstract Approximately 120 endangered bryophyte species occur in Hungary today, comprising 20% of the entire bryophyte flora. Agriculture, forestry, mining and industry pose the principal dangers. The relationship between bryophytes and their life strategies is analysed. Usually, degradation and disturbance are radically changing the existing bryoflora, allowing it to be replaced by cosmopolitan species. It is concluded that habitat protection is crucial to their future existence.
