The Microbial Host-Mediated Assay in Comparison with in Vitro Systems: Problems of Evaluation, Predictive Value and Practical Application

The purpose of investigations on mutagenicity using the host-mediated assay is, on the one hand, to demonstrate metabolites of those substances which are not mutagenic themselves. On the other hand, by applying this test system, relationship may be established between the mutagenic effect of a test substance in the animal and the dosage which is required to produce it.
