Shape studies of quark jets versus gluon jets at s=10 GeV.

1992
Using date from [ital e][sup +][ital e[minus]] annihilation into hadrons taken on the [Upsilon](1[ital S]) and continuum, we are able to compare event properties of three-gluon ([ital ggg]) and quark-antiquark ([ital q[bar q]]) decays. By tagging radiative decays of the [Upsilon](3[ital S]) to the [chi][sub [ital b]][sup [prime]] states, we can make comparisons of the [chi][sub [ital b]][sup [prime]] event shapes with continuum and [ital ggg] decays of the [Upsilon](1[ital S]). Contrary to the notion that two-gluon ([ital gg]) events are globally very similar to [ital q[bar q]] jets, we infer from a study of the [chi][sub [ital b]][sup [prime]] ([ital J]=0 or 2) states that [ital gg] event shapes more closely resemble [ital ggg] decays of the [Upsilon](1[ital S]), whereas [ital q[bar q]g] decays of the [chi][sub [ital b]][sup [prime]] ([ital J]=1) state more closely resemble [ital q[bar q]] continuum events in their decay characteristics.
