Gender Labour Inequalities, Temporal Availability and Social Regulation Desigualdades laborales de género, disponibilidad temporal y normatividad social

The aim of this article is to analyze the inequalities between men and women at the Spanish labour market from a particular gender perspective. We start from the premise that these inequalities can only be understood and explained if they are analysed considering their connection with the inequalities that take place in the context of the gender domestic relations. We consider that these inequalities are the result of the conjunction of the dynamics of the «new capitalism» enterprises, which is characterized for demanding the maximum availability from the employees, and the asymmetrical gender relations, which invade the whole social order and are particularly active within the domestic sphere. From a methodological point of view this connection is argued using the temporal dimension, on the basis of the analysis of the Time Use Survey which has been carried out by the Spanish National Statistics Institute in 2009-2010.
