Electron beam with momenta up to 46 GeV/c at the serpukhov accelerator

1973
Abstract An electron beam with maximum momentum p ∼46 GeV/ c has been developed at the Serpukhov proton synchrotron. The beam intensity varies from 10 6 electrons at 26 GeV/ c to 3×10 4 electrons at 46 GeV/ c for 10 12 protons circulating in the accelerator at 70 GeV; these intensities are for a ±3% momentum bite and spill lengths of up to 2 s. Electrons with momenta p c are produced by decrease of proton energy. Hadron and muon impurity in the beam is less than 1% at momenta p ∼26–40 GeV/ c and increases to 3.6% at p = 45.5 GeV/ c . A beam of tagged photons with energies between 12 and 40 GeV has also been developed.
