Aquaporins in health and disease

2020
Abstract Aquaporins (AQPs) are transmembrane channel proteins that mainly facilitate the water translocation through the plasma cell membrane. For several years these proteins have been extensively examined for their biologic role in health and their potential implication in different diseases. Technological improvements associated with the methods employed to evaluate the functions of the AQPs have provided us with significant new knowledge. In this chapter, we will examine the role of AQPs in health and disease based on the latest currently available evidence.
