Study of the decay D (1285). -->. K/sup +/K/sup -/. pi. /sup 0/

The decay D(1285)..-->..K/sup +/K/sup -/..pi../sup 0/ has been studied. The invariant-mass distribution of the kaon pair has been found with a statistical base an order of magnitude better than in previous studies. Analysis of the differential spectrum dN/dm/sub K//sup +/K/sup -/ in the delta-dominance model shows that the delta(980) meson cannot be described as a Breit-Wigner resonance with a small width. The ''effective width'' of the delta meson at the point (s)/sup 1/2/ = 1 GeV/c/sup 2/ is GAMMA/sub delta/>180 MeV/c/sup 2/. This result indicates a strong coupling of the delta meson with hadrons.
