An Analysis of Extent of Women Participation in Different Agricultural Operations in Karnataka

The study was conducted in Karnataka in purposively selected Kolar, Tumkur and Chitrhradurga districts for the research study. Results indicated that all of the farm women respondents (100%) participated regularly in cleaning grass. Their participation was also regular in case of drying produce (99.1%), storage (98.4%), harvesting (90.8%), weeding (90.0%), thinning (85.0%), sowing (83.4%), seed cleaning (83.4%) and winnowing (76.7%). They occasionally participated in the activities like application of manure (33.4%), threshing (28.3%) and shifting produce to threshing yards (25.0%). The farm women have never participated in the activities like dusting (98.4%), spraying (93.4%), marketing (90.0%), and preparation of spray mixture (88.4%), top dressing (85.8%) and land preparation (82.5%). Implement possession, extension participation, social participation, age, farming experience, occupation, annual income, livestock possession and value orientation were significantly associated with the participation of women in agricultural activities.
