Flow Analysis of Convergent and Divergent Nozzle Using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD)

2021
The device that controls the direction of fluid flow is Nozzle. Pipes of varying cross-sectional areas are used to design Nozzles. Nozzles help in controlling various characteristics of the fluid-like rate of flow, speed, direction, mass, shape, and pressure. The nozzle usually converts the chemical-thermal energy generated in the combustion chamber into kinetic energy. Generally in Nozzles conversion of high pressure, low velocity, high-temperature gases into gases of low pressure, high velocity, and low temperature takes place. Our study is carried out on Convergent and Divergent nozzles for analysis of flow using computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The numerical study is to be conducted to understand the airflow in a Convergent-Divergent Nozzle at different divergence and convergence angles using three-dimensional models. The present study is aimed at examining the supersonic flow in the C-D nozzle at various divergence and convergence angles. The flow is simulated using Ansys fluent. The result shows the variation in the pressure and velocity.
